Dealing With Fashion

Personally, I’ve never understood fashion, no matter if it’s for clothes, art or politics. Fads I can understand to a point because I can understand the “it’s new, it must be cool” factor, but not fashion. Usually, when someone says “fashion”, I’m out of the room by the beginning of the second syllable. Hearing people talk about fashion tends to get me stressed.

And then in the last couple of weeks, I’ve been reading about the fashion for a subject which touches me deeply — tea. The fashion now in America is for loose tea leaves rather than bagged tea. This is earth-shattering stuff in my world. Suddenly, my tea bags are not good enough to bring out in company anymore. How shall I cope?

I’m Practically Doing Handsprings

I’m secretly hoping that loose tea leaves will become the next big thing in America, even though it’s a lot harder to find than tea bags. You know why? Because there will be less of a demand for tea bags and then they will be MINE.

And if I offer anyone a cuppa and they don’t like tea bags, well, that’s just too bad. I’ve gotten to the age where I don’t care what other people think of me or my tastes in clothes, politics or tea. But I wasn’t always this way. For one thing, I used to drink soda and not tea.

Peer Pressure

When growing up, we are very unsure of how other people perceive us. In school, I was made fun of for just about everything I did or didn’t do. Some days, I just wanted to fit in so I could get through the day without cringing. In one sense, this feeling never really leaves, because we as a species like to be able to stay as inconspicuous as possible. If we act like everyone else, then we can’t be singled out as a target. This is one reason why fashion fascinates many people — to get them out of being targets for teasing or being left out.

When you get older, you see that fashion is fleeting. It can be fun, but styles have life spans shorter than a mayfly. What goes out of style today will be all the rage in ten years or less. That being said, I really don’t see poodle skirts making a big comeback.

So, if someone makes fun of your for not keeping up with the latest fashions, know that you are merely keeping up with fashion that was and that will come in the future. And, at least, you can always count on the fashions you like going on sale when they go out of style.

Hope this helps…for a laugh, if nothing else.

I totally agree with the above article. Basically fashion moves in a circle and do not ever feel shy on that you have something out of fashion. I personally believe that instead of following fashion, let the fashion follow you. Isn’t it?
