As a nurse, freelance writer and busy mom I live a varied and exciting life. My passion is writing, particularly on the subject of health, medicine and alternative therapies. Having been a nurse for many years I have acquired a great deal of knowledge to write about. There is nothing more satisfying than knowing my words may help and reassure others.

Pulmonary Embolism: Life flashing before my eyes

Loving Life

Life after serious illness…

A life threatening condition

Last summer whilst pregnant, I became desperately unwell and at 33 weeks was diagnosed with a blood clot on my lung (pulmonary embolus), being heavily pregnant at the time this shock diagnosis hit me and my family hard and for a time I feared desperately for my life and that of my unborn baby.

I was kept in hospital for a week and started on all the correct therapy but the stress and worry was unbearable. When I got home I was terrified to move as I feared this ‘ticking bomb’ inside me could go off at any time. As a nurse having worked in ER for many years I had attended many deaths as a result of these clots. Its true what they say, knowledge is a dangerous thing.

Child Education

School Kid

What a Difference a New School Makes…….

My eldest son started school life in a large urban school with 700 kids in attendance. I really thought he was doing well and enjoyed his time at school. It wasn’t until we moved to a new area and he joined a new school in year 3, that I realised how different his schooling was, and how much happier and educationally successful he became.

Different Types of Schools

Life in our new surroundings was different than we had ever experienced, particularly for my young son.

Sharing the Household Responsibilities

Chores

Make it an equal partnership……

For so many years I struggled through life as a single parent, working full time as a nurse in ER. I must have survived purely on adrenaline alone as when I look back there is no way I could do now, what I did then……

Alternative Therapies & Infertility

Pregnancy BumpThere is always hope….

A journey never to forget

At the age of 26 I never thought I would hear a doctor tell me that I was unlikely to be able to have children. After 2 years of unsuccessful trying, twinned with painful and embarassing fertility treatment, I was desperate to be a mom, and was not going to give up without a fight.

I suffered from Polycisitc Ovarian Syndrome, which ten years ago was a medical condition which at the time I struggled to find out anything about. Compared to today, treatments for the condition were almost non-existent and I was really given a very basic medical service.

I myself knew very little about the condition, and as a nurse that was very frustrating.

Mothers Day

Rose

Isn’t being a mom just great….!?

It is my belief that moms really don’t get enough credit for all the hard work they do. In my opinion EVERY DAY should be ‘mother’s day’!

Make An Effort

Its not often that kids really show their appreciation, and now that my eldest boy is eight, he is really starting to reralize just what mom does for him. As for my eight month old, the same can’t be said for him, but give it a few years and he’ll soon realize! There is nothing more heart warming than receiving that annual tradition of the hand-made mother’s day card, it brings a tear to my eye every year, without fail.
