Dealing with Fireworks

fearI hate fireworks.  I’ll probably be able to enjoy them when I go completely deaf, but right now they are a pain in my patootie.  I’ve been told that as a kid I loved to watch fireworks.  Then I went to Disney World on Christmas as saw the fireworks show they have there.  All other fireworks displays ever since have paled in comparison. 

It’s the loud, sudden noise quality of fireworks which I hate.  I’m just tooling along peacefully with my life and (usually when I’m bringing a cup of hot to my lips) then BOOM shakes the walls and the insides of my nerves.  If I was small enough, I’d be under the couch with the cat.  Here’s what I do to help deal with fireworks.

Advantages of Zombie Weddings

skeletonPersonally, I don’t know why anyone would want to go through all of the expense and hassle of a big public wedding ceremony, but that’s just me.  I don’t get NASCAR or golf, either, and apparently people dig those spectator sports, too.  But those holding the wedding should keep in mind that weddings are a spectator sport (even if they are not regularly shown on ESPN).  Therefore, it should be as less stressful for their spectators as possible — which, in turn, makes the Big Day not so big on stress. 

You could have a low-stress, high-fun Big Day by deciding to have a Zombie Wedding, no matter what your religious inclination.  Keep in mind that if you can’t get a legal zombie wedding done (for whatever reason), then you need to do a civil ceremony to make it legal, and then the Zombie Wedding can be just for kicks.

Mother’s Day Shopping Tips

So, that’s what we got her.

Turns out, that’s not really what she wanted.  So, your first Mother’s Day shopping tip is that you DO have to get her something for Mother’s Day, even if she says not to bother.  Unless you are in the hospital undergoing major surgery, she is lying.  Be sure to get her a prezzie. (My apologies to English readers — your Mothering Sunday was in March.  If you did forget, perhaps you can make up for it now.)

I’m Bothering To Vote Today

vote_here_womanToday is a day both anticipated and dreaded in my home state of Pennsylvania.  It’s election day, including the primaries that have been pinned as pivotal for providing a peek at the next president.  All of the news and sort-of-news fit to print have declared that today is the day when the next president will really be decided and everything else will be just a formality. 

Personally, I’m sick so sick of the whole thing that right now divine right monarchy is looking pretty good in comparison.  American politics really stress me out for reasons I really don’t want to get into here.   So why am I bothering to vote today?

Isn’t being a mom just great….!? 

 It is my belief that moms really don’t get enough credit for all the hard work they do. In my opinion EVERY DAY should be ‘mother’s day’!

Make An Effort

Its not often that kids really show their appreciation, and now that my eldest boy is eight, he is really starting to reralize just what mom does for him. As for my eight month old, the same can’t be said for him, but give it a few years and he’ll soon realize! There is nothing more heart warming than receiving that annual tradition of the hand-made mother’s day card, it brings a tear to my eye every year, without fail.
