Often referred to as the root of all evil, but certainly one of the leading sources of stress.

Dealing With Cheapskates

cash_flowOne of the most stressful things about running a home business is that some of your clients suddenly decide that they’re not going to pay you.  Let me point out that the Admin for this blog has ALWAYS paid in a timely manner, so I’m not talking about him!

Or, perhaps a good friend or significant other has borrowed a large sum of money from you — and then refuses to pay it back.  This is also stressful.

I call people who promise to pay and then don’t "cheapskates".  You might have another word for them, but let’s stick with one I can print.  How do you deal with these cheapskates?

Taking Charge of Your Money

cash_flowYou don’t have to be in debt in order to get better control of your finances.  You also don’t have to learn the hard way — like I did when I became homeless and didn’t have a choice but look after every single penny (because some days one penny was all I had).

But you do have to really want to take charge of your money.  That’s a key issue.  You will have to take some time out in order to realize what your money situation is.  This can be a little discouraging, and no one is forcing you to do it (not yet, anyway) so you need self-motivation to keep at it.  But the good news is that keeping track of your money can be an easy to habit to keep.

Study Says: Give To Charity

680711_makin_changeWhen I was a kid, I thought the old saying, "’Tis better to give than receive" was a load of old baloney.  However, since I’ve gotten older, I get far more enjoyment from handing the candy out to kids on Halloween than I did when I was on the other side of the door. It seems the feel-good factor in giving gave me more of a buzz than a bag full of candy did.

So agrees a study published in Science done by the University of British Columbia and Harvard.  These back up the findings of a 2006 study reported on in Proceedings of the National Academy of the Sciences.  It doesn’t matter how much you give (giving more money does not equal getting more happiness), just as long as you give.

Low Stress Coupon Clipping

supermarket"Money can’t buy happiness, but it sure makes misery a lot more comfortable."  — Bumper sticker

Money — or the lack thereof — is a major source of stress.  Until we go back to the bartering system or introduce a kind of "no money" system as in Star Trek, we will stressed out about money for a long time to come.  One of the ways to save what little money you have is clipping coupons from advertising circulars.  (In England, coupons are called vouchers — just in case any British readers wonder what I’m talking about).  But sometimes what money you save in coupon clipping you can add to your frayed nerves.  Here’s a look at low stress coupon clipping.
