I’ve been holding off on buying a new bottle of shampoo as long as possible. I have a favorite type of shampoo that just really works well with my hair — I’ve been using it since high school. But, while it isn’t a salon quality hair care product, it still isn’t the cheapest on the shelf. I just don’t like buying it when it isn’t on sale or I don’t have a coupon.
Before this week’s shopping trip, though, I realized I couldn’t make it even one more week on the amount of shampoo I had left. I went to the grocery store, thinking that I’d have to pay full price for my precious shampoo.
There, in the hair care aisle, though, I noticed something. A similar brand had a shampoo that promised to the exact same thing, and was on sale, to about half the price that I would need to dish out for the other stuff.
I don’t like spending money that I don’t have to, so I decided to go for it. For the first time in who knows how long, I bought a new type of shampoo. I stressed a bit about it, of course, but decided the lower cost was worth it, and if it didn’t work, well, next time I’d go back to my old shampoo.
I’ve used the new stuff for the past two days, and I admit, I stressed about nothing. I can’t tell any difference, except for a slightly different (but still pleasant) scent.
This whole long story is something that I’m trying to keep in mind as the calendar turns to 2008: the change wasn’t bad. It wasn’t even very different. It was just a decision to make, and I don’t need to worry so much about which shampoo to buy.
