Don’t Make A Mountain Out Of A Dog Pile

A Dog named KillerWoman who needs more stress in her life sues town over stepping in pile of dog droppings.

You have enough stress in your life.  Don’t add to it by doing something incredibly stupid, like making a mountain out of a molehill.  If you’re not familiar with that expression, it means "Make a lot of fuss over a very minor incident".  A recent example would be of a New York woman, who’s toddler stepped in a pile of dog poop during a recent visit to Norwalk, Connecticut.  It ruined his shoes, she claims, so she is suing for $100 — the cost of the shoes, for transportation and parking.

And if you are having a very stressful day, reading about bone-headed behavior like this will hopefully make you laugh and feel better about yourself.

Expect To Step In Stuff

Your life can be a lot easier if you realize that it is inevitable when you step in the poop — whether literally or metaphorically.  Actually, animal waste can be cleaned off of you — it’s not toxic waste, after all.  Even if it’s not poop you step in, then it’s going to be fresh cement, wet paint, mud puddles or other kinds of trouble.  Not every mishap in life deserves a lawsuit.  And there are a lot of stray dogs, so there might not actually be any human being legally responsible for picking up doggy do-do … just as there usually isn’t anyone responsible for you catching a cold or buying a losing lottery ticket.   Imagine what legal life would be like if we sued for those things, huh?

Don’t Blame Someone Else

Sometimes it can be reassuring to blame someone else for your misery.  I personally prefer to blame Tom Cruise for my migraines.  And yet, I have no impending litigation against the actor.

Lots of things in life happen for no reason.  They just happen.  They do not happen just to ruin your kid’s shoes or to giggle at you being stressed out.  Just accept that your kid ruined his shoes and get on with your life.   Kids ruin shoes.  This is a facet of life with kids.  If you are worried about shoes, then don’t get a kid.

When you look for someone to blame and accept responsibilty for incredibly minor mishaps in life, then you are just generating more stress for yourself. Soon, you have to justify the reason you’re looking for someone to take the blame.  This just causes more work for you than you need.

And no one is going to take your blame, your anger or lawsuit seriously.  All you will accomplish is generating more unhappiness in the world.  If you do happen to find yourself in this self-created situation, have the dignity and common sense to laugh at yourself.  A lot of your stress will suddenly dissipate, and people will try not to avoid you so much.

Many people are like that. If they encounter events not favorable for them no matter how small, they always find someone to blame it on. They lose constructive time in the process.
