This is not really new news. As a stressor, parenting is probably only second to work. There has not been much change in this finding ( a slight increase) in the last ten year according to another study done about 10 years ago. But if being a Mom or a Dad was not on your radar ten years ago maybe some of this will be new to you.
A recent survey by the Pew Research Center found
- 70% of the public says it is more difficult to be a mother today than it was 20 or 30 years ago,
- fewer (60%) say the same about being a father
- More than half of Americans (56%) say that mothers are doing a worse job today than mothers did 20 or 30 years ago. The group most critical of todays mothers were middle aged women.
One of the new findings was that there was a real difference between those men looking back at being a father and those in the middle of it.
Is Being a Father Tougher today that 20 years ago, are younger men in denial?
- 70% of men ages 50-64 say being a father is more difficult today
- 46% of men under age 30 agree
