Now that it’s December, it will be harder and harder to dodge party invitations. There are some holiday parties that you just can’t avoid. If you love parties and have a blast at them, good for you. You can read the rest of this to know what the rest of us feel like, if you can take that much time away from the lampshades, that is. Parties can be an incredibly awkward time where you do not feel visible, let alone liked.
With most parties, not a lot is going to happen. If you can find a crab puff, count yourself a winner (unless you’ve forgotten that you’re allergic to shellfish). Basically, you just sit and stare at other people. If you want to get through this stressful ordeal, here are some tips on how to be liked at parties.
Listen To Anyone Talking To You
Any eye contact with strangers or other other party goers might seem stressful to you, but this will lead to less stress in the end. The best way to be liked at parties is not to do much talking. You just sit there and listen to other people talk to you and your either listen or pretend to listen. You might as well listen — what ELSE is there to do? Just nod your head and say, "Yeah, uh-huh, totally," every now and then and you will be liked by the party goer who talks to you.
In order to get that party goer to start talking and get you out of any stress of making any conversation, you need to initiate eye contact with everyone that passes by. It seems to be an irresistable lure for those who are dying to talk to someone and not be interrupted. Listening to these people is a sure-fire guarentee of how to be liked at parties.
Don’t Drink
You might think that drinking alchohol will loosen you up and make you relax, but it won’t. It will make your breath stink, make you sick to your stomach and might make you babble like an idiot. Remember the old saying, "The beer goes in — the wit goes out." This will keep you from saying anything offensive, incredibly stupid or spontaneously puking, which will definately not make you liked at parties.
Besides, you will find it far more entertaining to be the only completely sober one at the party. Not only can you fully appreciate the idiotic behavior around you, you will the only one able to remember it.
Help Clean Up
Party goers can be so selfish. They come, make a big mess and leave it for the host to clean up. If you want to definately be liked by at least the host of the party, help clean up even as the party is still in full swing. Do the dishes — they always need doing. Find a pan and brush and sweep up a popcorn spill. Not only is this practical work, but it does help you be liked at parties.
Hope this helps. Remember, January isn’t too far away!
