Connection
What is grounding? It is the act of connection to the earth… I will give some examples later… What can it do for you? If we are "connected" we have a less likely chance of holding onto stress of any type …
One simple method I use in the shower each morning is to close my eyes and picture a tree putting its roots deep into the earth and reaching its branches up towards the heavens… I am connected and in the middle where I should be.
Another author suggests picturing a thick cord of rope or chain connecting you deep in the earth… whatever works for you. This method helps when traveling to ward off jet lag as a note of interest. Being grounded gives you the strength of Mother Earth (Gaia) and helps us stay focused and also limits the attachment of debilitating effects from whatever it is we do during the day. I am curious if you have any other techniques you would care to share with our readers?

Write a Comment»I’ve used the same ‘rooting’ technique (and find it a wonderful help when things feel as if they are reeling out of control, or I’m overcommitted) but I have never reached my branches to the heavens! I was only half connected, I guess! Thanks, I’ll give your way a try. SS
This seems to keep me balanced. I tried the “rooting” only technique and it did not work quite as well as the one I suggested. We are the “connection” between the heavens and the earth. Thanks for your insight.
I find this very difficult to do. It just doesn’t seem to work for me but I keep trying. Perhaps I have root rot?? smile. I think the cord anology seems to work a little better but I really have to work at it, I can’t just do it on the spur of the moment, as in travelling.
I have a couple of ways you could work on this if you are determined to do this for yourself. If you live near a tree go outside and just look at it… step up closely and lean against it and just relax … notice how it looks, smells, feels… then try to do your imagery right there and see what happens.
Another technique is to look at a picture and really notice the details… you can also do a meditation and step into the picture… write down what happens.
Either of these will “implant” the image of the tree in your mind and you should have a much easier time to make this connection. Let me know if this helps you …
