Stress Can Make You Fat

funny_warning_signNow, I don’t write this to make you feel even more stressed out about your weight than you may already be.  This is only a friendly nudge in a healthier direction.  If stress can make you fat, then guess what can help you loose weight — de-stressing.  And learning how to relax by coming to this site is a positive step towards getting rid of excess weight.  ("Are you on that Where We Relax website again?"  "Yes; it’s part of my overall weight loss strategy.")  You still need to eat a healthy, balanced diet, drink plenty of water and exercise regularly — but it will work more effectively if you can take time out to relax.

Are You Sure You’re Fat?

Only your doctor can tell you for sure if you need to loose weight.  Not your boyfriend, not the mirror, not by comparing yourself to others, no — only your doctor.  So, you may not need to stress out over your fat, because there isn’t any to loose.

Cortisol Slows Metabolism

Cortisol is the hormone our bodies put out when we are stressed.  It puts our bodies into "flight or fight" mode, which usually makes you feel tense, over your head and panicky.  Cortisol also slows down our digestive metabolism to divert more of the body’s energy to preparing to fight for our lives or run for the hills.  When you relax, this increases your metabolism.  Because of cortisol, stress can make you fat.

Poor Food Choices

When we’re exhausted and emotionally drained, we tend not to make the best food choices for ourselves.  We might grab a half-gallon of banana split sundae-flavored ice cream rather than having a banana.  If you know you are prone to not having much time to prepare food and reaching for high fat, high calorie snacks when stressed, you need to not have that food within your reach.  Drinking plenty of water and herbal tea, as well as eating fiber, can help give you that "full" feeling.

We Lose Our Sense Of Humor

When we’re stressed, all events that happen about us seem to take on colossal meanings.  Everything suddenly seems like such a major decision that it can be hard to laugh at anything.  Laughing not only burns calories and feels good, it is the best weapon you have to get rid of stress that can make you fat.  It’s one of the reasons I try to use a lot of humor in my writing (although, granted, I have been told that I have a rather twisted sense of humor!)  We all need the healing power of laughter to help us relax, loose excess fat and improve our health.

Hope this helps!

I so love the info you are sharing but you LOSE credibility when you mis-use LOOSE for LOSE. Your clothes become loose when you lose weight. Thanks for all you are doing but that was just making me stressed ;)
