Just trying something new can make you feel better…temporarily.
One way to quickly reduce your stress is just trying something new — whether it’s reading a new kind of book, grooving to a new exercise, eating a new food or even trying a new alternative therapy. The trick is that you have to believe it’s going to help. But even if you still remain skeptical, more often than not, something called the placebo effect
kicks in to help make you calm down. Although placebo effects are technically only applied to medical therapies, I believe it also kicks in with emotional therapies or new stress management techniques.
It’s Good To Try New Things
When you get stuck in a routine you’re not too thrilled with, this can often lead to feeling blue or constantly fatigued from the stress of being stuck. One easy way to help get unstuck and give you some energy is to do something different. It doesn’t have to involve money in order to be new. You’ll look at your schedule and see what’s best for you, but here are some options:
- Walking, biking or driving a new route to the store or wherever
- Saying "Walla walla" out loud whenever you want to complain
- Not turning the television on
- Listening to a new radio station
- Taking a bath with all of the lights out, or with just one lit candle in the sink
- Trying a new self-massage or reflexology technique
Don’t Become Dependent
We need balance with everything in life, including ways to manage our stress. What might help you relax one day might not necessarily work the next day. When we try new changes to our routine, we are often so distracted by the newness of it all that we are distracted from our worries and minor aches and pains. After a while, the new routine becomes the same old routine.
Don’t become dependent on one method of stress management for this reason. The magic of getting yourself to remain calm and relaxed lies in you, not in some exercise system, book or whatever. Remain flexible enough to be willing to try new things in order to help feel better — at least, temporarily. But the good news is that there is always something new to try. And who knows — you might find a stress management system like relaxation, yoga or whatever that clicks with you for the rest of your life, even when it does become part of your routine.
Hope this helps.

Write a Comment»Stumbled Upon!:) Very interesting article! Actually you can do this placebo effect with your mind as you can manage your thinking, or just a simple smile can make miracles;)

good writting, very interesting. And in my opinion if you stop moving and working for a while and start thinking about good things the stress will go away.
Or as mentioned in article, doing something new makes you feal better.
I wonder what would happen if you switch placebos every few months, but just don’t call them placebos. Thanks for all the kind words.
Who knows if we buy and eat Placebos. They sell a lot of different medicines and sometimes they work and sometimes not. There are better ways to reduce level of strees than pills. Control it!
