Come to the Dark Side. We have cookies. — Bumper sticker
Nature recently printed a Colorado State University study about how to identify a driver more likely to have road rage. Don’t look at their hand gestures — look at their bumpers. If there is even one sticker on the back of that car, then this driver is far more likely to get into a road rage incident than a driver who does not have a bumper sticker. The study went on to say that it doesn’t matter what the bumper sticker is about. So, potentially, even a "Peace Now" or "Jesus Saves" driver is just as dangerous as "NRA Forever" or "I Hate You" driver.
Why?
Bumper stickers are aggressive warning signs, anyway. Quite frankly, they can be distracting when you drive, no matter how funny they are. It is basically flashing your opinion in people’s faces when they haven’t asked for it. So this could very well be an expression of how we mark our territory. Instead of using scent marking like a civilized animals, we wear bumper stickers.
Although the study didn’t go into clothing, it got me thinking about the way we use clothing. This is slightly different from T-shirts with slogans on them, although the concept does appear to be the same. You can easily cover up T-shirts and they are only allowed to be worn in certain situations, anyway, whereas bumper stickers are blatantly obvious everywhere they go. You also have to be quite close to a person in order to read a T-shirt while you can be further away to read most bumper stickers.
About Road Rage
Road rage is a major cause of car accidents and is largely preventable. You take the same skills you have when not punching anyone on the sidewalk as you do when you drive your vehicle. If you are do know that you get highly stressed when driving, then you need to take deep breaths, use aromatherapy, play soothing music on the radio or leave your home ten minutes earlier than usual to get where you need to be.
Or, you just not drive. Although my eyes became too bad for me drive years ago, I’m glad I don’t drive. I was a very aggressive driver because I was afraid and stressed. (YOU drive on Route 30 every day and see how tranquil you remain.) However, I never had a bumper sticker on my car.

Write a Comment»That is SO true .. something about people who use bumper stickers always has irked me .. because really do they think they’re going to change the world with it? No, it’s just there to annoy other people.
Sometimes I do wonder if putting bumper stickers on your car is a kind of low-tech theft deterrent.
