A British healthcare provider, HealthSure, commissioned a survey to determine when people experience the most stress. Their research revealed that most people will feel the most frazzled, at least this year, on Monday, December 10th.
Most people cited the crunch to get everything ready for Christmas, from purchasing presents to meeting work deadlines in time to take off a little extra holiday time. They even narrowed down the worst time frame: 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. The added pressure of Monday mornings and rush hour traffic seems to the straw that breaks the camel’s back.
Healthsure additionally pointed to the fact that people simply don’t take care of themselves during the holiday season. Overindulgence in both alcohol and rich food are common, as are numerous social engagements that cut into sleeping hours and extra work in order to make up for planned time off. All of this stress can lead directly to illness if people don’t take time out to take care of themselves.
To avoid stress throughout the holiday season, take time for yourself. Be willing to say ‘no’ to all those commitments that just seem to pile up. A little extra rest here and there can come in handy, as well.
Healthsure’s goal was to pinpoint the worse stress in the year, in order to encourage people to take a step back during those times. The survey relied on telephone interviews with over 500 subjects throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. More information is available in this press release.
