I have a love-hate relationship going on with caffeine. Unfortunately, this has resulted into my body becoming dependant on caffeine to the point where I get a caffeine withdrawal migraine if I don’t have any in 20 hours. Since I am not a morning person, I appreciate the lift that a strong cup of tea can give me.

Just like with anything else, the key to dealing with caffeine is to consume it in balance with the rest of your life. For example, after having a cup of tea, I usually have a glass of water. I get the initial kick from the caffeine and the longer source of energy from the water. Of course, I need the energy having to run to the bathroom.

I am not a prude in that I think the human body is a wonderful thing. However (and you knew a however was coming) I have been revolted by the beach volleyball shown during the Olympics. They should call it “nearly naked volleyball” instead of “beach volleyball”. I have actually found myself screaming at the television, “Put some clothes on!” I go to work now when the beach volleyball comes on. This saves myself a lot of stress and nausea.

But it got me to thinking about back in the Stone Age when I would argue with my Mom over my size of bathing suits and how tight my clothes were allowed to be. I am now at the age where I can see the viewpoints of both sides of the lack of clothes in public coin.

Scheduling Time Off

In my job as a freelance writer (and as the sole employee of my business) it’s been proven to be a real challenge in scheduling time off from work. Let me rephrase that — it’s been almost impossible to schedule time off from work. This is partially because I really love my job. I start to get tense after a few hours away from work and itch to get back to the keyboard. However, I’ve done enough research to know that scheduling time off is important, even for a job you love.

If you wake up one day to see someone you don’t know standing on your lawn, you can save yourself and the sinister lawn-stander a lot of stress by not jumping to conclusions. Unless you have a fence around your property, people and their dogs are going to stand or walk on your lawn. Sometimes, it can be very hard for a stranger to tell where public property ends and private property begins.

Take a deep breath and do these things instead of pulling out a gun (I wish I was joking here — I’m not).

Sudden Shock Puts Things Into Perspective

My dog, Pony

My dog, Pony

Shock the Mommy to life.

When talking to my dog, Pony, I refer to myself as “Mommy” (or “Mummy”). I don’t believe I’m my dog’s mother, but that’s not the point. The point is, my dog thinks I’m her mother. This is what I tell people. But deep down inside, Pony is my family as well as my best friend ever.

So, when anything bad happens to her, it’s as if the sky has come crashing down on my head. Such an event happened Thursday.
