Early Christmas Stress Tip

I hear you screaming, “NOT YET!!!” because it’s only October 1 (or 1 October, if you live in England). But talking to your friends and family about Christmas NOW will save a heck of a lot of hassle, misunderstanding and misspent money later on. Be honest about your finances. This Christmas, more than any Christmas in decades, most people are not going to be able to afford to buy lots of gifts or throw lots of parties. You can still celebrate Christmas (or Kwanzaa or Yule or Chanukkah) but not spend the money that you have in years past.

Some Practical Advice

I have two college degrees and didn’t learn much in the way of practical advice. Sure, I learned how to show up to class on time (mostly) and how to pretend that I was paying attention to the professor, but other than that, my Liberal Arts and English degrees haven’t done me much good. So now, I’m going to write the list of practical advice I wish someone gave me when I was in college. This list covers a wide array of situations, but feel free to modify whatever items you like to suit your situation.

In researching many kinds of alternative healing and meditation, I read again and again about the importance of breathing properly. Then, I usually read about a whole bunch of breathing exercises you can do. And then I try them. And then, my face usually turns beet red and I wind up breathing like a I usually do and then go read a book on a different subject. This happens to other members of my family whenever they try these exercises.

If meditation or herbal tea isn’t your cup of tea to help you relax and calm down when you’re tightly wound, then perhaps self-hypnosis is for you. You can go to a hypnotherapist, but many people prefer self-hypnosis because it’s flexible, cheap and you are assured of privacy. There is no one right way for everybody when it comes to relaxation.

On the first Saturday of May in 1999, I thought I was having a heart attack. Convinced I was going to die, I wondered what I really wanted to do if I lived. (It was to visit England again). Soon after I made the decision, the pain went away. Since I didn’t have health insurance at the time, so I thought I couldn’t afford to go to a doctor. I came to the wrong conclusion that I’d been given a second chance at life. I went to England a couple of months later. My life changed drastically from then on.

But did I actually have a heart attack that afternoon in May? Turns out, I didn’t. I was in absolutely no danger of dying whatsoever.
