American Chronicle recently published an article about stress addiction, where the author is positive that we are all addicted to stress (whether we admit it or not). Her article isn’t entirely serious, but does raise the question of whether you can become addicted to stress or not. Perhaps it’s a low-cost form of thrill seeking. Can’t afford that bungee-jumping expedition through New Zealand? Just try putting your big work project off until the last possible moment. That certainly gets the blood flowing!
Adrenaline Addict
It is possible that you can eventually crave the rush of adrenaline through your body that a sudden shock, extreme sport or stress can give you more than stress itself. However, adrenaline rushes are not pleasant for everybody. I always get nauseous, so there is very little chance of me becoming an adrenaline junkie. Butter pecan ice cream addict, yes. Stress addict? No.
But, some people like adrenaline rushes.
How Do You Know If You’re Addicted?
If you find yourself purposefully sabotaging your life by always doing things the hard way, then you just might be addicted to stress. This can manifest in a lot of ways, such as never trying to find solutions to your problems, or staying in a bad job or relationship. Although stress is normal, it’s not normal to be stressed 24/7. If you find that you are stressed all of the time, please seek professional help through your doctor.
