Laughter Yoga

From doing tons of research for articles, I know that yoga gives you many health benefits, including a great way to manage your stress. However, I’m not the most physically supple person in the world. I see it’s time to do the Down Dog position and I’m off to do the Butt On Couch position. But I can definitely get behind laughter yoga.

Does Exactly What It Says On The Tin

There’s not a lot of special equipment or lessons you need in order to do laughter yoga. You basically stand up (if you can) and laugh for fifteen minutes. Many people like to do this together, as when you hear other people laughing, that can set you off with real laughter. There are formal laughter yoga classes you can take, which does incorporate some mild exercise, especially breathing exercises from older yoga traditions, but mostly is a time to get together with others socially and laugh your head off.

A Brief History

Laughter yoga was started where most yoga traditions started — in India, by Dr. Madran Kataria in 1995. He basically wanted to help people with a non-threatening form of physical and emotional exercise. The idea spread and now it’s all over the world. I wouldn’t be suprised to see laughter yoga clubs among the male Emperor penguins in the dark of the Antarctic winter, circling around and round with an egg on their feet for months. That constant honking may be penguin laughter.

There are some scientific studies of brain scans of people who are laughing that indicate that the hormones released during stress decreases when you laugh. The stress hormones can help to aggravate certain illnesses and medical conditions. It also makes it harder to loose weight. So, laughing can be good for your health.

And you don’t have to worry about pulling a muscle or getting your limbs in knots.

I’m doing yoga for a couple of months now and I’m enjoying it. I feel better and less stressed.
Though I haven’t heard laughter yoga before this. I think it is a bit weird but I will try it I think it will be fun
