Today is the first day we’ve gotten snow. I’ve been (impatiently) waiting for this day since the beginning of October, and driving all my friends and relatives crazy in the process. It’s taken a while, but it’s finally here. I think we’re closing in on two inches right now.
I grew up in Colorado, and to me, the natural state of things involves snow on the ground. The moment I saw snow falling this morning, I broke out of a sort of pre-holidays funk I hadn’t even realized that I was in. Even though I haven’t lived in Colorado for over four years, I still miss the early snowfalls. I’ve been moping around, complaining more than a bit about the 60 degree, sunny days, because, darn it, that’s just not the way things are supposed to be in November and December.
I’ve even gotten to the point that I’d enjoy shoveling snow — at least for the first hour, or so. I know that if I went back to Colorado for a full winter, I would be whining about how hard it is to drive or how much I wished for warm weather. And I do realize that snow is a major inconvenience, if not dangerous, for a lot of people.
But for right now, I’m just spending a quiet afternoon, enjoying my snow. I’ve even taken a walk out, and had to resist the urge to throw a couple of snowballs when no one was looking.
