Thirteen Ways To Reduce Stress

Thirteen happens to be my lucky number, so today (the 14th), I’m listing thirteen quick and relatively easy activities you can do in order to help reduce your stress, calm down and relax. I think I’ve done about twelve of them today because my Mom is still in the hospital. These items are presented in no particular order. Hope this helps.

Ways To Reduce Stress List

  • 1) Take a nap of about a half hour. Any longer and you’ll get too groggy.
  • 2) Take a deep breath, through your nose if you can. This helps get much needed oxygen to your stressed out brain.
  • 3) Read a book — any book. It’s a good distraction.
  • 4) Meditate.
  • 5) Soak in a warm to hot bathtub, with or without aromatherapy oils.
  • 6)Let fish nibble you.
  • 7) Clean something. You can see immediate results of your actions.
  • 8) Watch nature, whether your pets or wild critters.
  • 9) Turn off any noisemaking electronics in your home, such as the TV or the radio and soak in the quiet.
  • 10) Have a good cry of only a few minutes long. It’s like an emotional purge.
  • 11) Learn about a popular conspiracy theory (just don’t take it too seriously).
  • 12) Drink a cup of your favorite tea.
  • 13) Laugh.

5 and 13 can really work wonders. I use them both often and I feel so much better afterwards. Wishing your mom the best.

I think beathing is the most important one, concentrating on our breath stops your mind from going round and round and the actually deep breaths will help you feel better

numbers 4 and 12 work best for me. I love a cup of herbal tea, and later lie in bed with my hemi sync tapes.

Meditation, praying … and of course hanging out with my cat :), these are what works for me.

I would also say that giving attention to an animal is a good stress reliever.. As well, getting a massage is great but also giving one seems to keep my mind set on the job at hand which also helps with the stress.
