Weekending in a Cottage
Recently I was looking for some vacation alternatives. I stumbled across the Everyday Weekender site. Being from the west coast of the US when I saw a reference to a cottage, I envisioned a cobblestone old English small farm house in the middle of a hedgerowed field. Where the main entertainment would be listening to the animal sounds and reading after dark by an oil lamp. Was I ever wrong.
I guess the cottage has evolved in the last hundred years or so. Now this is what I would call a cottage.
One thing I would have liked is more pictures of different types of cottages typical to the area he is writing about.
Being from the NW coast and an avid fisherman, I have eaten quite a bit of salmon over the years, I often see plank cook salmon and halibut in the restaurants but I have always BBQ’d or smoked with an occasional poached or baked mine at home. The Weekend has a few good food recipes and I might even breakdown and try cedar planking a salmon next time.
