I realize that we haven’t reached New Years Day yet, so the holiday season isn’t properly over. But I’m sure plenty of are read for a little post-holiday relaxation. Here are a few tips to make sure you come down off the holiday high in one piece.
- All the decorations do not have to come down today! Plenty of people make a big production out of taking down Christmas and Hanukkah decorations, mandating that the process must be dealt with immediately. It’s not worth worrying about yet. There is no law that says you can’t wait for the weekend (or even wait for January). I don’t exactly advocate having your red and green Christmas lights flashing on your front porch around the 4th of July, but you’ve got some time. You can do it in small batches, or when you have spare time.
- Don’t jump into some starvation diet. I know a lot of us plan to lose weight as part of our New Year’s resolutions, but it’s worth taking the time to plan our diets and ensure our success. In some cases, we may need to check with a doctor or nutritionist to decide on the best way to drop pounds, or may need to make up some menu plans and exercise schedules. Sure, pass the rest of the holiday cookies off to the neighbors, but make sure you still eat after the holidays end.
- Say ‘thank you.’ Plenty of people can worry about whether you liked their gift, so give them a break and let them know that you appreciate their thoughtful present. You may not want to break out the fancy stationary and nice handwriting, but a simple phone call or email can let someone know that you are grateful.
