The bad news is that Medicaid lost all my paperwork. The good news is that I haven’t been declared dead.
Although I adore my job as a freelance writer, I don’t yet make enough to be able to pay for all of my expenses. This is why I’m on the Medicaid program available through Welfare. People on Welfare tend to be very misunderstood in America. I work full time and still can’t afford the medicine that keeps me from killing myself. I’m not a lazy person trying to sponge whatever I can through Welfare (and I have yet to actually meet one of these stereotypes). Last week, I got a letter from Welfare stating that they’ve decided to drop me. The reason why?
They Lost All My Paperwork
But at least I was still listed in their computer data base, so that means I haven’t been declared dead. When facing a stressful situation like dealing with application forms, always try to realize that it could be a lot worse. I’m sure the mountain of paperwork would be a lot larger if I had to prove that I was still alive. So, I have to reapply for Medicaid ALL OVER AGAIN. The forms are horrible, to put it mildly, and so I’m a tad bit stressed. Here are some tips that have helped me deal with application forms.
Don’t Look At The Whole Mountain At Once
When you put all of the application forms together for State-funded Medicaid, they weigh nearly a full pound. This is a lot of paperwork in itty bitty print. Just take it a page at a time so you don’t get overwhelmed. Eventually, the mountain of application forms will be climbed.
It Won’t Kill You If You Make A Mistake
Mistakes on any kind of paperwork can eventually be fixed. It might take a while, but eventually they can be fixed. It’s more important to get the applications in to the proper people and deal with mistakes later than never being able to turn in the application because you’re afraid you’ve made a mistake.
Reward Often
You don’t have to make a big party out of getting every page completed, but you should allow yourself some rewarding moments such as:
- a cookie or other small treat
- a chance to rest your eyes for a few minutes
- listening to a favorite song
- thinking kindly about yourself, as in, "Well done!"
- gently massaging your neck and temples
And eventually, it will get done. Well, until the next time you have to deal with another application form mountain.
